Lindsay Bernard Hall (1859 – 1935) was an English-born Australian artist, teacher
and the director of the National Gallery of Victoria for 43 years.

Alan Geoffrey Serle (1922 – 1998), known as Geoff, was an Australian historian, who is best known for his books on the colony of Victoria and his biographies of John Monash, John Curtin and Robin Boyd.

Constance Ellis (1872 – 1942) was an Australian medical doctor who specialised in obstetrics, gynaecology and pathology. In 1903 she became the first woman to graduate from the University of Melbourne as a Doctor of Medicine.

Robertson & Moffat was a prominent Melbourne drapery and department store established during the 1850s gold rush by William Robertson and William Turner Moffat. Located on Bourke Street, the firm grew from a drapery into a significant retailer selling clothing, millinery, and furniture, eventually becoming Robertson & Moffat Proprietary Ltd.

Jessie Constance Alicia Traill (1881 – 1967) was an Australian printmaker. Traill worked in England and France in the period immediately preceding World War I. During the war she served in hospitals with the Voluntary Aid Detachment. Traill is best known for a series of prints created in the early 1930s depicting the construction of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Before the official opening of the Melbourne Public Library (now State Library Victoria) in 1856, Sir Redmond Barry’s residence was often considered the city's first public library. Barry allowed the public to visit his home, a cottage near Bourke Street West, behind Goldsbrough, Mort & Co, to read his personal collection, acting as a library for early Melbourne pioneers.
