Daintree moved to Queensland in 1864 became a resident partner with William Hann in pastoral properties in the new Burdekin country of North Queensland. He continued to explore new territories from a geological perspective particularly with a view to opening up goldfields. He also continued his interest in photography.
Daintree advocated a geological survey of Queensland and in 1868 was appointed the geologist in charge of the survey for the northern division. This selection of photographs are from a group of Queensland images from around 1870. Back in England In 1873 Daintree produced a book called ‘Queensland Australia’ to illustrate the colony’s geographical position, climate and resources. It was intended as a handbook for prospective immigrants and investors.
The Queensland Art Gallery has a suite of photographs from the 1873 'Queensland Australia' on their web site with commentary on Diantree and the 1874 London International Exhibition - see link at bottom of this page.
